Before DDD: Recruitment

We recruit trainees from disadvantaged backgrounds, those with no access to education or good jobs.

Many of our staff are disabled, and most are very poor. Their parents are usually farmers or work low-wage jobs, struggling to feed many mouths. While still young, many of these children are forced to drop out of school to help earn money for their families.

In Cambodia and Laos, this poverty trap is the average, not the exception. The region is still recovering from the harsh regimes of the 70s, which not only wreaked economic devastation, but specifically persecuted skills and education. With an emerging job market and underdeveloped human resources, the countries are plagued by poverty - sustenance farming comprises a whopping 80% of the region's GDP. In Cambodia, per capita income is $310; in Laos it is $270. By bringing good jobs and access to the international market to Southeast Asia, DDD hopes to change this status quo.
