Nearly a decade after opening our doors in Southeast Asia, DDD is excited to announce that Ms. Amolo Ng’weno has joined our team as the founding Managing Director of DDD Kenya.
DDD’s board recently approved an expansion to Nairobi and Amolo is leading the implementation of DDD’s model in East Africa. We are excited for this growth, and know we will learn a lot from this office as we pilot a modified model in a much different geography.
Jeremy Hockenstein, CEO of DDD, said he is delighted to have Amolo onboard to help the organization transition into this new era. “Amolo Ng’weno represents the best of Digital Divide Data–a commitment to making a social difference, combined with a track record that shows her dedication to high performance and to delivering high-quality services to clients,” he explained.
Amolo is the ideal person to lead this work. She joins DDD from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where she was a Deputy Director in the Financial Services for the Poor team. A Kenyan native, Amolo worked in the local tech and nonprofit space in Nairobi prior to coming to the US. She was also an entrepreneur: Amolo co-founded Africa Online, an internet service provider that operates in eight countries in East Africa, in addition to an online retail site that was named one of the best small businesses in Kenya in its time.
With her local expertise, and a breadth of experience that spans the private and nonprofit sectors, Amolo is perfectly poised to adapt DDD’s social enterprise model to Kenya. Personally, she is excited to return to Nairobi with her family and with the opportunity to make an impact in the country she considers home. And we at DDD are thrilled to have her not just in Kenya but also as a fresh, strong voice on DDD’s senior management team.
We will release more news about DDD Kenya in the months ahead but, for now, please join us in welcoming Amolo Ng’weno to the DDD family.
